We can now read: “As of May 5, 2025, only iOS version 15.1 and later will be supported“. Indeed, until now, WhatsApp was supported on Android 5.0 and higher, as well as iOS 12 and higher. Smartphones equipped with iOS 12, iOS 13 and iOS 14 will therefore be ineligible to use WhatsApp from from May 5.

In other words, the smartphones directly impacted by this change will be the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, which were all released more than 10 years ago. Moreover, even Apple considers these models vintage or obsolete. As a reminder, the latest version of iOS supported on these smartphones is iOS 12.5.7, which effectively makes them ineligible for using WhatsApp.
If you still own one of these smartphones and use WhatsApp regularly, it is therefore advisable to upgrade to a newer model, running iOS 15.1 or later. If you don't do this by May 5, WhatsApp will become completely unusable.
