The Galaxy M16 has appeared on Geekbench, suggesting its arrival is imminent. As is the case with M series phones, it is expected to share most of its features with the already announced Galaxy A16 5G.
As is tradition at Samsung, the launch of new Galaxy A series smartphones means that there will also be new Galaxy M series models. So after the launch of the Galaxy A16 and Galaxy A16 5Gil no It’s no surprise that the Galaxy M16 appeared on Geekbench.
According to the Geekbench listing, the Galaxy M16 (SM-M166P) is equipped with an octa-core processor which is said to be the MediaTek Dimensity 6300. This is the same chipset that powers the Galaxy A16 5G. It also reveals that the phone has 8GB of RAM, but it is likely that there will be other RAM variants.
The Geekbench results also show that the phone runs Android 14. However, it remains to be seen whether it will get the same 6 years of OS updates and security updates as the Galaxy A16. Chances are there won’t be any difference considering that the Galaxy A15 (available on Amazon for $151) and the Galaxy M15 will both get 4 generations of OS updates and 5 years of security updates.
Other specifications of the Galaxy M16 are currently unknown, but considering the similarity between the Galaxy A and Galaxy M series, it wouldn’t be a stretch to expect an almost identical spec sheet between the Galaxy A16 5G and Galaxy M16. However, there could be a significant difference.
Like the Galaxy A16 5G, the Galaxy M16 is expected to have a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED 90Hz display with a notch for a 13MP front camera. It is also expected to feature a triple camera setup on the back, comprising a 50MP primary camera, a 5MP ultra-wide angle camera, and a 2MP macro camera.
Despite its AMOLED screen, the Galaxy A16 5G is equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint reader, which should also be the case for the Galaxy M16. It should also support storage expansion, be IP54 rated, have a plastic back and frame.
The main expected difference between the two phones should be the battery capacity, since the Galaxy A15 has a 5,000 mAh battery, while the Galaxy M15 has a larger 6,000 mAh battery. It’s likely that Samsung will stick to the same battery difference once again.
As for the launch date, there is no information yet. There was a four-month gap between the Galaxy A15 5G and the Galaxy M15, but given that the Galaxy A16 arrived earlier, it’s possible that the Galaxy M16 isn’t far behind.
