Google has officially announced a rather daring feature (especially given the ongoing abuse of dominant position trials in the USA), present for the moment only in its application of the same name for iOS. Google presents this novelty as a way to obtain additional information, which on the one hand is true, but on the other hand it is simply another attempt to redirect users to new search results. In short, using the Google app on iPhone, it extracts relevant information about the web page viewed at that moment from Google’s Knowledge Graph and automatically creates links on that same page which, if clicked, open an overlay window with additional information about it. In practice, Google automatically inserts links to itself on third-party websites.
We also point out that this feature is enabled by default for all websites, without having asked them for any permission. Publishers who do not wish to be part of it will have to fill out a special form and within 30 days they will be excluded from this “service”. And to be even more precise, you must enter all the possible addresses of a site for it to be excluded, that is to say with or without www, http and https, plus all possible subdomains. But shouldn’t it be otherwise?
