The original iPhone X, HomePod, and AirPods are going vintage

Three iconic Apple products have just joined Apple’s list of legacy products: the iPhone X, the original HomePod, and the first generation of AirPods. They are now considered “vintage” and Apple no longer ensures the supply of spare parts needed to repair them: it will still be possible to benefit from after-sales service based on the parts available for two years, before these products become permanently obsolete.

If you need a repair, such as a new battery or screen for your iPhone X, it is therefore advisable not to wait too long if you plan to go through an Apple Store or an authorized repairer. Once the stock of spare parts is exhausted, you will have to fall back on a repairer outside the official Apple network.

The iPhone X launched in September 2017, now seven years ago, and was Apple’s first smartphone with a rounded-edge display, a notch for the front-facing sensors, and Face ID facial recognition. It only lasted a year, replaced by the iPhone XR and iPhone XS the following year. The original HomePod launched in June 2017, then was discontinued in March 2021 with no replacement until a new larger model returned in January 2023. The first-generation AirPods launched in September 2016 and remained on sale until the AirPods 2 arrived in March 2019.
