While in recent years, photo manufacturers only seemed to offer hybrid cameras with interchangeable lenses or expert compact models, Panasonic created a surprise on Tuesday by unveiling a new bridge-type camera, the Panasonic Lumix FZ82D.

As a reminder, just like compacts, bridge cameras are cameras whose lens is fixed and cannot be replaced by another lens. On the other hand, they are distinguished from compact models by their lenses with an often superlative focal range. For its new Lumix FZ82D, Panasonic has thus integrated a 3.58-215 mm lens. Enough to offer, in full-frame equivalent, a field of vision equivalent to 20 mm for the wide-angle and up to 1200 mm for the telephoto lens. The aperture is logically variable and, if it is f/2.8 on the wide-angle, it will have to go down to at least f/8.0 on the longest focal length.

On the photo sensor side, the Lumix FZ82D is equipped with a sensor of 18.9 effective million pixels in 1/2.3″ format. Of course, to compensate for the very long focal length of the lens, the body also benefits from optical stabilization.

If these features ring a bell, it’s probably because you already know the model that inspired this Lumix FZ82D. The camera actually takes the features of the previous Lumix FZ82 released in 2017. However, it improves the formula, particularly in terms of viewfinder, with a 2.36 million dot Oled viewfinder with a magnification factor of 0.74x — compared to 1.66 million dots and a factor of 0.46x for the previous version. The same goes for the 3-inch, 1.84 million dot touchscreen, compared to 1.04 million for the previous model.

The new Lumix FZ82D also provides a sensitivity increase from 80 to 6400 ISO, a shutter speed of up to 1/16000 s in electronic shutter and a burst with autofocus tracking of 6 images per second – 10 images per second without autofocus tracking. For video, the camera is not left out, since it is capable of shooting sequences up to 4K at 30p or in Full HD at 60p.

Lumix FZ82D Price and Availability

The new Panasonic Lumix FZ82D will be available during the month of August. It will be offered in France at a price of 479 euros.
