Lovers of the automobile world will recognize this model at first glance. Yes, it’s a small version of the iconic Ruf CTR, the queen of a video dating from 1987 demonstrating Stefan Roser’s driving skills on the Nürburgring. The car was nicknamed Yellowbird and, since then, every car enthusiast has dreamed of one…
In the smallest details
Given that only 29 units of the first Ruf CTR were built and its price tag is over a million, you’d be better off opting for a scale model. There are of course reduced versions which reproduce the sports car down to the smallest detail. And then there’s this version from Ritter Goods. Behind this company is a creative jack of all trades, Andrew Ritter, who specializes in reproducing cars in the Japanese chibi style. It’s about pulling the cars a little out of proportion to make them more “cute”.
That’s exactly what was done for this 1/43 scale Ruf CTR, which, by the way, is completely built under license. Although the design has been handled creatively, this does not mean that there is no room for details. For example, the fully detailed underbody with exhaust, turbos and suspension. Even the interior has a speedometer whose needle indicates 340 km/h, the maximum speed of the Ruf CTR Yellowbird.
Spicy price
The yellow model is placed in a nice plastic “display case” with a plaque indicating more information about the model and its serial number in the collection. So far there is no reason not to buy this model. However, the price risks dampening the celebrations. Ritter asks for around €206 (including shipping). In addition, the package is shipped from North America so it is not certain that it can be placed under the tree before Christmas.
So, this Yellowbird or several Hot Weels under the tree this year?
