With the Jimucon SJ-9500, Toshiba has just created a surprise by unveiling a desktop computer with totally vintage lines, but very modern components. A surprising machine which is however not intended for everyone.
Today, when it comes to office PCs, the time tends to be for computers that are light, compact, fast and easy to use. Nobody wantsa large trendy gas factory machine… And yet, you should know that since 1982, the manufacturer Toshiba has regularly offered desktop computers dedicated to office tasks in the industrial sector. And that for these models, he does not hesitate to try very particular designs.
The Jimucon SJ-9500, versatility according to Toshiba
If you like small computers, it is possible that the Toshiba Jimucon SJ-9500 will give you buttons just by seeing it in the photo! This model measures 53,8 × 65,8 × 41,8 cm and weighs the trifle of 23 kg. It comes in the form of a block equipped witha 15-inch touch screen installed on a 24 pin dot-matrix printer which also acts as a central processing unit. A DVD player is required, as is two SSDs of 240 GB each. On the connectivity side, there are six USB ports, various serial ports as well as a Gigabit Ethernet port. Everything works with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise.
The Toshiba Jimucon SJ-9500 is clearly not a computer that will allow you to play LoL games between two episodes of a series on Netflix. This PC version of Frankenstein’s monster is intended for business useespecially in sectors where it is a question of being efficient and rapid in the management of IT tasks. The best example of this is none other than the dot-matrix printer integrated into the machinewhich is able to print up to 240 characters per second on large format paper and generate up to seven carbon copies at the same time as the original document. All this, without much surprise, with much higher reliability than “modern” printers.
Almost a tradition at Toshiba
Of course, today we are talking about the Jimucon SJ-9500 for its unusual side, but it should still be noted that Toshiba is not its first attempt. As mentioned above, the Japanese manufacturer has offered models in the Jimucon range since 1982. The SJ-9100 model released a few years ago had a very similar design and functionality.
It should also be remembered that the Japan is a country of contrasts when it comes to technologycapable of delivering many innovative high-tech devices to the world, while having an administration still attached to fax and 3.5-inch floppy disks. In this context, it is no wonder that such a computer attracts businesses thanks to its robust and reliable image. Despite everything, this remains a niche market, since Toshiba does not sell more than 1,000 units per year of this type of machine, and only in Japan.
