not all new features would be available at launch

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that a significant number of features planned for iOS 19 will be delayed until spring 2026, as is already the case for some new options in iOS 18.

iOS 18 – Siri

According to exclusive information obtained by the journalist Mark Gurman de Bloombergthese postponements would concern much more than the simple update of Siri based on machine learning (LLM), already announced last week. Some of the new features are not expected to see the light of day until iOS 19.4 is releasedthus pushing their availability back several months after the initial launch of the system.

This strategy is reminiscent of Apple’s current approach with iOS 18, where the much-anticipated Siri redesign will only be available with iOS 18.4 next spring, although it was announced last summer when from WWDC24 alongside other features.

Apple must delay the arrival of certain features

This new postponement comes during a delicate period for Apple. The Cupertino company is going through a difficult yearmarked by problematic software updates and profit growth mainly attributed to production optimization rather than an increase in demand. Challenges are also piling up around the Vision Pro, whose production could soon be stopped due to low sales. Even the AirPods Max, its wireless headset, would not be entitled to a new version in the coming years.

The new version of Siri, supposed to compete with ChatGPT and Google Gemini, will ultimately only be available a few months before the presentation of iOS 20. Apple plans to unveil iOS 19 at its annual developer conference in June 2025before a public rollout in September alongside the iPhone 17, whose range is expected to include a new “Air” model.

This staggered rollout approach raises concerns about Apple’s product strategy. While the company appears to be moving away from annual release cycles, there are concerns that this practice could diminish the appeal of new iPhones when they launch.
