The health application Samsung Health is updating itself and taking the opportunity to abandon certain “old ones” smartphones Galaxy of the brand. The app will still work, but with “limited services and features” and no support.

Some Galaxy smartphones sidelined by Samsung Health

Over the years, Samsung’s health application has established itself as a must-have for Galaxy smartphone owners. The latter allows you to measure your physical activity such as your number of steps, but also to synchronize interesting data such as your heart rate or your blood oxygen saturation level measured by a Galaxy Watch, and soon a Galaxy Ring.

Launched in 2012, the application is celebrating its 12th anniversary and will no longer be updated on older Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Indeed, version 6.27 of the application is no longer available for phones running Android 9 or earlier versions. A decision which took effect on June 24 and which therefore concerns devices considered too old by the brand, such as a Galaxy S8 or a Galaxy Note 8 released in 2017, for example.

As you can see in the above screenshot shared by AssembleDebug, Samsung clarifies that “You can still use Samsung Health, without upgrading the Android operating system, but you will only be able to use limited services and features, without additional support”. That has the merit of being clear.

To run Samsung Heath normally, you will therefore need to have a Samsung smartphone running Android 10 or later. While the end of support for some products for an application still presents a problem for a small number of users, the majority of the Korean brand’s phones currently in circulation should not be affected.

The extension of Android software support on certain Samsung models (seven years for the Galaxy S24, four years for the Galaxy A55) means that fewer and fewer users of “old” smartphones will be sidelined.
