Could this already be the beginning of the end for AirPods Max? A few weeks after the release of a USB-C version, no information suggests the future release of a new model…
Almost four years ago, Apple launched into the high-end portable audio market with its AirPods Max. A headphone version of the famous white wireless earbuds, but with much better audio quality and adaptive noise reduction that outperforms all competitors. But since December 2020, only an update has made it possible to switch from Lightning to USB-C. For new features, customers can check back.
And unfortunately, according to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, it seems that the second AirPods model is clearly not the priority on Cupertino’s side, so much so that there is even talk of abandoning the AirPods Max 2 project. The current model remains sold at €579, and it could well remain so for a few more years, Apple wanting to maintain the current model for “the foreseeable future”.
However, it is obvious that we can find headphones on the market with the same technical sheet as the AirPods Max and a significantly more accessible price. Apple being Apple, the firm can afford to maintain such a selling price for a headset which is, all the same, one of the best on the market. On the other hand, Apple should not delay too long, because the H2 chip already equips the new AirPods Pro, allowing them to offer Adaptive Audio. A function that AirPods Max is terribly lacking.
