THE lite versions operating systems have become a necessity for many users looking to optimize the performance of their PCs. Microsoft already offers a specific version of Windows 11, called Windows 11 IoT, which targets devices with reduced hardware requirements. Intended primarily for industrial and commercial uses, this edition is ideal for vending machines, point-of-sale terminals, and other digital signage systems.

Windows 11 IoT, for example, can run on just 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM, which is far below the requirements of standard versions. Additionally, it supports a variety of processors and offers optional security requirements, making installation possible on devices with varying capabilities.

This version of Windows 11 comes without Windows Defender

However, it is circulating on the web an even lighter version of Windows 11. This modified edition, which may have come from the Chinese government, removes key components like Microsoft Edge, Windows Store and even Windows Defender. This drastic reduction in functions aims to optimize system performance by limiting background processes. But this is not without consequences and leads to serious compromise in terms of security.

Indeed, this unofficial version uses a unauthorized activation method called KMS38. This extends the Windows activation period until 2038. Although this technique is functional, it is not not approved by Microsoft and poses problems of legality and reliability. The absence of Windows Defender makes systems vulnerable to malware and other threats. For those looking for a more secure alternative, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC remains the best option. It offers broad compatibility and reduced hardware requirements without sacrificing security.

So while this stripped-down edition of Windows 11 may offer improved performance, the associated security risks and legal complications make it use on your PC not recommended.
