Since last year, relations between Xbox and Square Enix have greatly improved, leading to the release of Final Fantasy XIV, Final Fantasy I–VI Pixel Remaster, Legend of Mana and Trials of Mana on Microsoft consoles. However, Xbox Series X|S owners still hope to one day be able to enjoy Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which seems to be only a matter of time.

The Final Fantasy 7 trilogy could see the light of day on Xbox

Earlier in the year, we learned from journalist Jez Corden of Windows Central that discussions about the arrival of Final Fantasy VII had taken place. With Square Enix's stated desire to reach even more players by actively pursuing a multiplatform strategy including Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms, this rumor takes on even more meaning.

Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, recently gave even more hope for the arrival of these titles on Xbox during an interview with GamesRadar. He notably mentioned the desire to reach “as many players as possible”.

“As for Final Fantasy VII, there is nothing to say at this time, but I want to make Final Fantasy VII and the remake series accessible to as many players as possible. So we want to create this situation, this environment, that will allow more players to play these games in the future, and that's the direction we want to go. »

He also took the opportunity to discuss Square Enix's new strategy initiated in 2023 by the new CEO, Takashi Kiryu.

“I think it goes beyond Final Fantasy VII. It's really a shift in the industry, and I think we certainly feel right now that the industry has changed in that there are so many different platforms and environments that people play games these days. […] It's a lot more diverse today, and I think that's probably why our CEO, Mr. Kiryu, made the decision to move more towards cross-platform – it's simply the way the industry is evolving. »

Finally, just to conclude well and definitely give hope to Xbox players, Naoki Hamaguchi confided that he himself owns a Microsoft console, and above all that he “really likes Xbox”.

“This is just a personal opinion, but I have an Xbox myself. I think it's a great hardware platform. I really like Xbox. »

The arrival of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth, as well as the last episode of the trilogy on Xbox, now seems highly plausible. Let's also remember that the producer of Final Fantasy XVI had clearly implied earlier in the year that the title could land on Microsoft consoles.
