A new turnaround occurs at Ubisoft Toronto… This inevitably arouses concern for the development of Splinter Cell Remake.

The French publisher Ubisoft is still as prolific in terms of projects. That said, the novelty of the moment is that in addition to the original titles, the studios are preparing remakes. Very recently, Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, confirmed that several revisits of the Assassin’s Creed saga are planned. Likewise, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was finally shown during Summer Game Fest 2024. But many are waiting for the return of another flagship license from the publisher: Splinter Cell.

In fact, Sam Fisher will indeed return in Splinter Cell Remake. This iconic hero of the stealth genre has been keeping a low profile for a few years now. Ubisoft Toronto is currently working on this very promising reiteration. However, the studio has been through some tough times lately, and it’s not stopping… Should we be worried about its current projects?

An unfortunate relief for Ubisoft and Splinter Cell

Our colleagues at PC Gamer reported this at the end of last week: Ubisoft Toronto is about to lay off employees. The Canadian studio is known for contributing to several of the publisher’s biggest franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell. It is also working on the remake of the latter, at the same time as the remake of Prince of Persia, two major titles.

Presumably, this reorganization would aim to achieve a better balance between the resources allocated to the different projects. In fact, a representative from Ubi Toronto confided that the studio ” has decided to carry out a targeted realignment to ensure that it can meet its ambitious roadmap “. However, this reshuffle is accompanied by a dismissal which “ will unfortunately have an impact on the role of 33 team members who will leave Ubisoft “. Although the studio is committed to supporting them in these forced departures, in particular via the compensation due, there are therefore 33 names added to the list of all those dismissed, including at Ubisoft, for several years within the video game industry.

These dismissals come as the remake of Prince of Persia has finally been concretely revealed. The fact that the studio is working on two important projects would have led one to believe that it was experiencing favorable growth. However, this upheaval within the teams leaves us doubtful. Even more, we can be concerned about the fate of the Splinter Cell remake. If Ubisoft has guaranteed that its “ plan remains unchanged “, we must hope that its development will take place in the best conditions.
