Who is Daisy? How This Incredible Grandma Stops Phone Scams

Daisy's goal is to trap telephone scammers at their own game.

At first glance she is a grandmother like so many others, who tell stories of her cat Fluffy and the best recipes, except that she does not exist. Daisy is an artificial intelligence created to stop phone scams.

It is a British telephone operator, Virgin Media O2, which is at the origin of this formidable granny whose mission is to waste the time of scammers on the telephone by detaining them thanks to its art of digression… “Daisy is indistinguishable from a real person, and tricks scammers into thinking they've found a perfect target to beat them at their own game.” the company confided in a press release, reports Le Figaro. And Daisy has plenty of time, she can chat aimlessly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And that's the goal, to keep the crooks busy!

Online scams have become particularly common in the UK. The solution is simple as announced by the slogan broadcast with the number to denounce telephone scam numbers: “Ruin a crook’s day!”

And Daisy knows a thing or two about keeping someone on the phone! She jumps from rooster to donkey, pretends to be part of the scam, appears vulnerable and airheaded, is about to give her bank details, makes a mistake, goes into an anecdote about her cat or gives a cooking recipe… enough to really make the online scammer lose patience who thinks he has found the right pigeon. Some would have spent almost an hour trying to convince the grandmother… Clever!
