“We are sorry”: Asobo apologizes for the launch of Flight Simulator 2024 | Xbox

The release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 didn't really go as planned. The game was indeed impacted by several glitches, including server problems, simply preventing players from connecting to the game. Obviously, this caused a lot of noise, pushing the studio to speak out.

“We are truly sorry”

In a live broadcast this morning on the sidelines of the release, Asobo apologized to the players. It was Jorg Neumann, Sebastian Wloch and Jayne, who are respectively director of the franchise, CEO of the Studio and Community Manager, who spoke and apologized to the players.

While it's a great launch day, we know a lot of people are frustrated. […] We are very sorry, we want to apologize. We made this video because we are always here, we want to be as transparent and honest as possible. So we have some problems today, the team is on it and we will continue.

The teams review the situation and detail the various problems, notably mentioning an overload of its servers.

At the very beginning, when players start playing, they ask a server to provide them with data and this server will save it in a database. This is a very large database, with a cache, and that cache is currently becoming full. We've run load tests simulating 200,000 users, and tonight it's completely overwhelmed.

[…]

We have tried to restart services, we have taken measures to limit the number of people who can enter at the same time. It worked pretty well, we increased the queue size by five times, the speed, and it worked fine for half an hour, then all of a sudden the cache crashed again.

Asobo now claims to have resolved the problem, and it is now possible to connect to the servers in order to enjoy the game without too many problems. The studio also apologizes again for the inconvenience caused and thanks the players for their patience.

Please let us know if you were able to enjoy the game, and what you think of the experience so far. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC as well as Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
