Google is preparing to transform the message saving experience on Android. After years of waiting, the Google Messages app is finally developing a native feature for backing up and restoring your conversations.
Until now, users had to rely on Google One to back up their chats from Google Messages, an often complex and unintuitive process. The new functionality, discovered in the latest beta version of the application, promises to radically simplify this process.
Technical details revealed by 9to5Google are promising. The backup tool will allow you to keep not only your conversations, but also all associated media. Particular attention was paid to safety: Google will implement end-to-end encryptionaccessible only when the screen lock is activated.
Google has thought out its message backup feature well
A particularly clever aspect of this new feature is its flexibility. Users will be able to choose to back up their media only over Wi-Fi, thereby preserving their mobile data plan. In addition, the restoration will be almost automatic: it will suffice to Log in to your Google account to retrieve your entire conversation history.
The user interface appears to have been carefully thought out. A backup option will appear directly in the settings menu, under the heading “Backup & Sync”. Users will also have the option to delete and start a backup again, or disable the feature completely.
The new backup feature addresses a crucial user need. Unlike current solutions that are sometimes unreliable, this native method promises simplified restoration of RCS conversations between Android devices. In addition to saving messages, the application has recently integrated Gemini artificial intelligence and developed other features such as selecting the quality of photos before sending. Google even recently improved the readability of messages on its application.
While the official rollout date has yet to be announced, clues in the beta suggest the launch is imminent. For millions of Android users, this is great news that will make managing their conversations easier.
