After having, since 2021, authorized infinite “scroll” to display its search results, Google has decided to return to the good old method with a display by numbered page.

For a long time, Google worked in a very simple way: after reaching the end of the search results, you had to go to the next page to see the rest of the results. Then in 2021 (2022 on PC), a small change arrived: scrolling. All you had to do was scroll to see the latest results displayed. A small change that many had not even noticed (proof that we often stop at the very first results).

But now it’s over. Google has indeed decided to return to the old version for its search engine. A change which, once again, should not change much, but which could be surprising at a time when scrolling has become the norm with the rise of social networks and smartphones.

So why such a change? It would actually be a question of speed. In other words, displaying results page by page would take less time to load, since only a small portion of the results will be needed on each page.

As The Verge explains, the “infinite scroll” has already disappeared from our computer, and should soon also do so on our smartphones.
