The Game Awards are the video game equivalent of the Oscars. Every December, this event celebrates the best of the gaming industry, with trophies for categories like Game of the Year, Best Art Direction, Best Soundtrack, or Best esports game. Balatro is an independent video game developed by LocalThunk that reinvents poker by integrating cheating mechanics. Players start with a deck of 52 classic cards and must make poker hands to accumulate points. The originality of the game lies in the possibility of modifying the cards using jokers and bonuses, allowing, for example, to transform clubs into hearts or to increase the value of a card. This combination provides a gaming experience that is both strategic and unpredictable, making each game unique and captivating.
Player feedback is unanimous: Balatro is addictive and entertaining. On the Steam platform, the game displays an “extremely positive” evaluation with a rating of 10/10 (from more than 10,000 reviews).
