Poco F6 Pro test: a little too many compromises to “fold the game”

Poco F6 Pro test: a little too many compromises to “fold the game”

For its photo section, Poco has chosen a triple module composed of a 50-megapixel main sensor with a wide-angle lens (f/1.6) and optical stabilization, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (f/2.2) and a macro module (2-megapixel sensor) which is clearly an accessory.

Module principal : 50 Mpx, f/1,6

Compared to the formidable Pixel 8a, famous for its photo qualities, the daytime photos captured by the Poco F6 Pro lack contrast. Google’s smartphone, by accentuating the contours, manages to offer sharper images, although the F6 Pro manages to deliver detailed images with colors that are a little washed out. If we notice some chromatic aberrations when confronted with moiré effects, the Poco smartphone delivers generally successful photos.

Also at night, the Poco F6 Pro does well with readable photos, with fairly well transcribed colors. If we observe digital smoothing intended to erase image noise, this does not hinder the level of detail, much helped by more pronounced contrasts.

Module ultra grand-angle : 8 Mpx, f/2,2

Despite good lighting conditions, the ultra-wide angle is particularly disappointing. Daytime photos are too smooth, lacking texture and precision. With only 8 Mpx, the sensor struggles to provide satisfactory sharpness, especially compared to its rival equipped with a 13 Mpx sensor, which is significantly more efficient. The whole thing is a little overexposed and too messy.

At night, the result is difficult to use with dull colorimetry and software processing that makes everything completely blurry. This is all the more true as the gaze moves away from the center of the image which, if its distortion is controlled, gradually becomes illegible.

Front and video module

The Poco F6 Pro is equipped with a 16 Mpx selfie camera which delivers good quality self-portraits and is effective during video calls, provided you do not use it in low light.

The device also allows Full HD recording at 60 fps on both front and rear, and up to 8K at 24 fps only on the rear. Thanks to the combination of optical (OIS) and electronic (EIS) stabilization, shakes are reduced, providing rather stable and satisfactory videos.
