EAST,Conrad

1923 – 2024

In Montreal, on June 10, 2024, passed away Conrad East, pampered husband of Françoise Perron. He was the son of Ulric East and Lumina Talbot. Preceding him in the afterlife was his sister Marie-Claire and his brothers Laurent, Gaston and Florian.

Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his sister Olivette (late Laurent Lamontagne), his sisters-in-law Colette, Louise and Nicole Perron, his sister-in-law Suzanne Morin and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins.

Mr. East had a busy career in teaching, research and administration. He was first deputy director at the Geophysics Observatory of Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf from 1964 to 1967, research professor of atmospheric physics at the School of Public Health of the University of Montreal from 1966 in 1971, then at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) until 1988. At UQAM Mr. East was at the origin of the introduction of meteorology and was director of the Research Center in Sciences of the Environment for eight years. In addition to his teaching and research work, Mr. East has contributed through numerous conferences and interviews to spreading the message of environmental protection to the public. In 1973 the Air Pollution Control Association, of which he was the director of the Quebec section in the 1970s, awarded him an honorable mention for the exceptional quality of the services rendered. In 1989, he received the S. Oscar Villeneuve prize awarded by the Société de Météorologie du Québec, for his contribution to the progress of meteorology in Quebec. Eager to see his environmental studies continue, in 2019 he created the Institute of Environmental Sciences Scholarship Fund for the benefit of students. A gesture which earned him the title of Golden Patron of UQAM.

The family sincerely thanks the CHUM staff for the attentive care he received in recent years, as well as the staff of the Gracia Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci palliative care unit.
