The PS5 Pro, at 800 euros, is striking with its price. Newly launched, it promises exceptional power compared to its sisters. But does this difference justify the price difference? Let's analyze this model from Sony and the arguments behind this bold price tag.
With the launch of the PS5 ProSony hits hard by pushing the technological limits. However, the 800 euro price tag raises questions about the true added value of this console. This article explores what's new in the PS5 Pro, its potential for gaming, and assesses whether it justifies its cost, taking into account the requirement to have compatible equipment to fully enjoy it.
PS5 Pro: a new design designed for gamers with storage expandable to 8 TB
The PS5 Pro adopts a familiar design, reminiscent of the PS5 and its Slim version, but with strategic modifications. Thinner than the original model, it features black side openings designed for better ventilation. It is also equipped with 2 TB of storageexpandable up to 8 TB using an additional SSD. Fans of enhanced games will undoubtedly appreciate this increased capacity.
Connectivity and ports available
The console offers USB-C ports on the front, accompanied by USB-A, HDMI 2.1 and Ethernet ports on the back. On the other hand, there is nothing new on the controller side, identical to previous versions. If Sony continues to seduce with its advanced connectivity, the lack of a support base remains a slight disappointment, sold separately for 30 euros.
PS5 Pro: a graphics revolution thanks to PSSR and an even faster SSD
The PS5 Pro far outperforms its predecessors in terms of performance. With a Improved GPU 67% more processing units and 28% faster memory, it delivers games with incredibly smooth graphics. THE PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) impresses, allowing sublime upscaling graphics renderings, like a strong emulation of ray tracing.
Speed is also there thanks to a faster SSD, considerably reducing loading time. However, the console can emit a little more noise, especially during prolonged sessions.
An enriched gaming experience
Games optimized for PS5 Pro, such as Ratchet & Clankshow a notable qualitative leap with refined graphics and advanced resolution modes. Flagship titles like Gran Turismo 7 is adorned with unprecedented fluidity – 120 fps in performance mode, close to perfection with ray tracing.
PS5 Pro: a high cost for demanding features, should we take the plunge?
Despite all its improvements, the PS5 Pro isn't for everyone. Its full potential is only expressed with adequate equipment: 4K HDR Dolby Atmos screen with VRR compatibility at 120 Hz. Without this, the technical prowess could seem diminished, thus questioning the necessity of this investment.
At a price of 800 euros, the PS5 Pro is the most expensive console ever launched by Sony. This price margin of 250 euros compared to the PS5 Slim, even with expanded storage, will be difficult to justify for some. Add to this the optional purchase of the reader for 120 euros, and the bill can quickly add up. The question of whether the improvements justify the cost arises legitimately.
