These iPhones are now considered “vintage” by Apple

For a device to be considered “vintage” by Apple, the firm must have stopped marketing it for at least 5 years. This is now the case for two smartphones, but also for a range of Apple watches. When a device is considered obsolete by Apple, this means that it is still possible to request a repair from Apple, but without guarantee: the device can only be repaired if the parts allowing the repair are still available.

The iPhone XS Max and iPhone 6s Plus are now “vintage” devices

So, since today, the iPhone 6s Plus and the iPhone XS Max are now part of Apple's “vintage” models. As a reminder, the iPhone XS Max was marketed in September 2018, while the iPhone 6s Plus was launched on September 9, 2014, more than 10 years ago now. The iPhone good time already.

In addition to these two smartphones, the Apple Watch Series 2 range is now an “obsolete” device at Apple. To be obsolete, a product must have been released from the market 7 years earlier: this is the case of the Apple Watch Series 2, which was marketed in September 2016, then replaced the following year by the Series 3. Devices considered obsolete by Apple cannot be repaired by Apple, except for one exception: Macbooks can have their batteries replaced even 10 years later.
