These are two national brands, both located in the city center of Cholet, but which will soon close their doors. The first is called Maxi Bazar, located opposite Place Travot, at the bottom of Rue Nationale. The store, born in the south-east of France, in Antibes, and specialized in interior design (linen, decoration, small furniture, kitchen utensils, etc.), opened its doors in 2019 following the closure of Bouchara, which previously belonged to the Eurodif group. Five years later, the adventure came to an end due to attendance that did not live up to expectations. The exact closing date has not yet been made official. The large premises – with a sales area of 950 m² – have not yet found a buyer.
“There are not enough young people”
A little further, at the bottom of Boulevard Gustave-Richard, just opposite the Jardin de verre, is the Pokawa restaurant which will permanently close its doors within a month. The brand, which has around a hundred points of sale in France, opened its Cholet store in September 2022. On the menu: poke bowl, a typical dish of traditional Hawaiian cuisine. The concept is good, moreover, the two Pokawa stores in Angers are doing very well, but here, in Cholet, there is not enough traffic in the city center
explains the manager of the Cholet restaurant. We don’t see enough young people. Look, there are very few bars, for example, in the center… In the end, the restaurant was not profitable.
