“A sale like this is pretty fantastic. It calls upon our childhood memories.” an unusual auction took place. A giant dinosaur skeleton was auctioned and sold for 6 million euros in Yvelines.
The anonymous buyer is a collector who said he wanted to entrust the skeleton of an apatosaurus, a giant herbivore, to a museum, indicate the Collin du Bocage and Barbarossa houses. The dinosaur sold at the castle of Dampierre-les-Yvelines measures more than 20 meters long and 4 meters high. This makes it the largest dinosaur skeleton ever sold at auction in France.
“It’s a beautiful stripe in the dinosaur market“, welcomed Olivier Collin du Boccage, auctioneer. For scientists too, this sale marks an important step. The dinosaur nicknamed Vulcan is the representative of a new, hitherto unknown species of the apatosaur family. The money from the sale could be used to finance other paleontological research.
“This skeleton will be donated to a Belgian or French museum.” according to a representative of the buyer.
This record sale is still far from the figures reached in New York last July. A stegosaurus skeleton was sold there for more than 44 million euros.
