Google has updated a help document to confirm that Gemini in Messages will now work on any device with 6GB of RAM, the latest version of the app, a personal Google account, and RCS mail enabled. This extension integrates many Android devices from several brands like OnePlus, Xiaomi, Realme and Oppo, as well as Pixel and Samsung devices, which were once the only beneficiaries of this feature.

On the other hand, the only languages supported for the moment are English and, in Canada, French. This language limitation hasn’t stopped Google from making Gemini available in dozens of countries, from Albania to Zimbabwe. The phased rollout was initially intended to avoid overloading Google’s servers and to fix possible bugs before full global availability. Now this restriction is lifted, allowing a much wider audience to access Gemini.

To enable Gemini in Google Messages, simply click “Start a conversation” and select Gemini instead of human contact. This AI assistant not only allows you to write messages, but also to use various features such as event planning or brainstorming, functions already present in the dedicated Gemini application. This integration makes the use of the bot more intuitive and accessible, since it is present directly from the native messaging application.

Users can ask all kinds of questions (for example: “ I haven’t contacted my friend in a while. Help me write a short message to get news and reconnect ), ask for recommendations, and get help writing messages, all without leaving the Google Messages app. This feature is particularly useful in the context where a quick and well-worded response is required.

The integration of Gemini into Google Messages is part of a global deployment strategy, with particular attention paid to specific markets such as India. This country, with its 1.4 billion inhabitants, represents a massive opportunity for Google. In addition to English, Gemini supports nine Indian local languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati and Urdu, providing the accessibility needed to reach a diverse population.

Additional requirements to access Gemini include a minimum age of 18 and using a Google account not managed by Family Link or Google Workspace. Once these criteria are met, users can take full advantage of Gemini’s capabilities.
