WhatsApp is constantly evolving. Meta regularly deploys beta versions before releasing a stable public version. This allows us to predict new developments to come according to data from Wabetainfo. What to expect in December?
Improved sending of photos and videos
Some beta testers have been able to benefit from a new function for sending media for a few days. Until now, if you want to send several photos or videos, you have to press the attachment icon, access the gallery and select a photo or video. Once selected, you must tap on an additional icon to add other media.
With this new update, Meta simplifies the process by integrating an icon allowing you to directly add several photos and videos simultaneously. As a bonus, it is possible to adjust the quality of the sending via the selection to transfer the desired media in high quality.
Searching for photos on the Internet
In the coming weeks, WhatsApp will add a “search the internet” function to verify the authenticity of an image. This will provide more information and ensure that the image in question has not been manipulated, especially in the era of generative AI.
Notification management
It must be admitted, among all the discussion groups we have, some are more important than others. In order to avoid spamming notifications, while keeping the essential ones, Meta will allow you to personalize them. We can thus deactivate them all, keep them all or only receive notifications that seem important, when there is an interaction. This includes mentions or direct replies to our messages.
A real contact manager
This is one of the most anticipated new features. The contact manager announced at the end of October should arrive very soon. We hope it will be before the end of the year. This will finish in style by leaving it up to all users to save contacts directly to WhatsApp Web and Windows, in addition to other connected devices.
