American YouTuber Marques Brownlee, known under the pseudonym MKBHD, once again finds himself facing criticism from Internet users. After creating controversy at the end of September by launching a controversial wallpaper app, the tech star has once again attracted the wrath of his fans. One of his latest videos, titled “How my video gear is changing!” (“How my video equipment is evolving!”, in English), was first criticized by its subscribers for being entirely sponsored by the DJI firm, instead of representing an independent product test. Internet users believe that it is literally a ten-minute advertisement for the brand’s latest camera.
More problematic, it mainly showed an extract in which the young man, driving a Lamborghini, commits a serious traffic offense: he filmed himself driving at more than 95 miles/h (nearly 153 km/h) in a zone limited to 35 miles/h (around 56 km/h) and where a sign warned drivers to slow down to watch out for children, reports the website The Verge.
Faced with the wave of criticism, Marques Brownlee edited his video by deleting the five-second excerpt which revealed his speeding. The speedometer on the driver’s side had in fact been blurred on the video, but not the one on the central screen, on the passenger side… He explained in a comment that he had deleted the “useless driving” sequence.
In a message published on the X network, he then made his mea culpa. “It is absolutely inexcusable and dangerous,” he admitted, admitting to having gone “much too quickly”. “All I can do is apologize and promise to never do something so stupid again. “It’s a terrible example to set and I’m sorry,” added MKBHD, ending his message. As for Internet users, many believe that he should be reported to the police.
