Amazon seems to want to join the race for augmented reality glasses, but with a different approach than its competitors.
According to information from Reuters, the e-commerce giant is developing an AR glasses project called “Orion”, but which will not be intended for the general public. In passing, note the lack of creativity in the nomenclature because Meta recently presented a prototype with this name.
While Meta, Snap and Apple are actively exploring this emerging market, Amazon would like rather equip your own delivery people with these innovative glasses. The objective would be to improve the delivery experience by offering better navigation to its couriers.
According to Reuters sources, these “Amelia glasses” (their internal code name) would display real-time navigation instructions on a small integrated screen. They would thus allow delivery people to concentrate more on driving and transporting packageswhile saving precious time with each delivery.

Amazon wants to equip its delivery workers with smart glasses
With millions of packages delivered every day, Amazon knows that every second counts. These augmented reality glasses could therefore help to optimize the “last mile”, the most expensive part of the delivery process.
When asked about this, an Amazon spokesperson said: “ We are constantly innovating to provide an even safer and better delivery experience for delivery people. We do not comment further on our product roadmap ».
In addition to the navigation screen, the glasses could also integrate a camera allowing delivery people to quickly take a photo of the packages being delivered. They would also be compatible with Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant, providing convenient voice control.
However, the e-commerce giant faces significant technical challenges. Notably, it seems to be struggling to develop a battery capable of lasting a full workday. Not to mention the risk of making wearing these glasses uncomfortable during long delivery hours. Faced with these obstacles, Amazon would even consider abandoning or indefinitely postponing this project if the results do not meet its expectations.
