The Snapdragon 8 Elite already appears to be a superb update to last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with Qualcomm ditching typical ARM cores in favor of Oryon, allowing for improve CPU performance by 30%. Although it’s still early, a new leak provides a glimpse of what we can expect from next year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.
As leaker Jukanlosreve shares with reference to Korean sources, both successors to the Snapdragon 8 Elite – expected to be dubbed Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 – and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 are on track to achieve single-core scores of the around 4,000 on Geekbench 6. To give you an idea, the Snapdragon 8 Elite typically scores around 3,200 on this test, indicating a potential 25% increase in performance for its successor.
Of course, it remains to be seen how Qualcomm achieves this while still running the SoC at acceptable temperatures. The Snapdragon 8 Elite, despite its impressive performance, hasn’t received praise for its thermal management – the chipset runs cooler than its predecessor, thanks to its 4.32 GHz clock speed.
Interestingly, rumors previously claimed that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 would not be manufactured exclusively by TSMC, but in collaboration with Samsung. These rumors appear to be wrong, however, and it now appears that the chipset will be manufactured solely on TSMC’s N3P node.
