UA quarter of growing companies experience a slowdown in growth due to insufficient IT infrastructure. In addition, scale-ups are seriously lacking in cybersecurity skills.
In addition, the international expansion opportunities of growing companies would also be limited by their IT infrastructure, points out the same study. No less than 28% of them declare that “ their current IT systems are not sufficiently adapted to the company’s growth into foreign markets ».
Therefore, this limited growth gives the competition many opportunities to get a head start. Nearly a third of decision-makers (31%) fear that competition will catch up with them if the organization is unable to quickly update IT systems.
A deficit of expertise to secure IT systems
Lack of expertise is part of the reason why many scale-ups fail to get their IT processes in order. According to the study, “ 37% of these say that their organization does not employ enough employees with the necessary knowledge to improve infrastructure IT ».
This is one reason why more than a third of scale-ups (35%) say that people in their organization have no idea which technologies can improve the efficiency of internal processes.
The « Lack of IT expertise not only limits growth and efficiency, but also poses serious risks to the business », explains Stefanie Richheimer, VP Benelux at Mollie.
More than a third of decision-makers (36%) indicate that within their growing company, knowledge of cybersecurity is insufficient to have a secure IT system.
And Stefanie Richheimer concludes: “ When start-ups buy their first software, they often don’t fully consider their future. We regularly find that a solution is chosen which has limited capacity and, for example, is only suitable for ten sales per day. As the online store grows, this software often proves inadequate. Companies then have to look for a new supplier and adjust all their processes and systems. A more effective approach is to choose a partner that can scale from the start, so your business growth is never limited by IT. »
