Nikon presented its new Nikon Z6 III, a camera which incorporates the main qualities of the premium models at a more controlled price.
Nikon may have stood out in the professional segment in recent years, but the Japanese manufacturer has not forgotten about cameras that are more accessible to the general public and enthusiasts. This Monday, the firm unveiled its new mid-range camera, the Nikon Z6 III.
Launched more than three years after its Nikon Z6 II, and after a retro and intermediate Nikon Zf model, the Nikon Z6 III takes up many of the characteristics of the Nikon Z8 and Nikon Z9 bodies that the firm has been able to launch in the meantime, whether in terms of functionality, video or their autofocus.
Concretely, the Nikon Z6 III is a hybrid camera equipped with a full frame format sensor of 24.5 million pixels. It benefits from a size close to that of the Nikon Z6 II, more compact than that of the Z8 launched last year, with a weight of 750 grams. The sensor is also mechanically stabilized, allowing a gain of 8 stops in low light conditions.
Many options in photo and video
Concerning autofocus, autofocus is announced as particularly effective with 273 AF points, detection up to -10 EV and detection of eyes, faces, animals, trains or planes. Nikon has also renewed its 3D autofocus system inaugurated on the Nikon Z9. For shooting performance, the device is capable of reaching 120 frames per second in burst with a 10 megapixel crop. Without cropping, it can go up to 60 frames per second in JPG format or 20 frames per second in RAW format. The device also offers a sensitivity that can vary natively from ISO 100 to 64,000, with double native ISO at ISO 800 and 6400.
Video is obviously not left out, since the device is capable of filming in 6K in RAW at 60p without an external recorder thanks to its CFexpress type B port. It is also possible to shoot sequences in 4K 120p with cropping of 1.5 x, in 5.5K ProRes 422 HQ or in Full HD 240p for filming slow motion sequences.
If the sensor of the Nikon Z6 III is not a stacked sensor, as those of the Nikon Z8 and Nikon Z9 can be, the manufacturer nevertheless ensures that it has developed a new technology with part of the circuitry directly integrated into the sensor. Enough to significantly reduce the rolling shutter compared to a traditional sensor, even if Nikon does not do without a mechanical shutter. The same goes for the blackout phenomenon, particularly reduced on the Nikon Z6 III.

To take advantage of this, Nikon has also integrated a particularly bright and fluid 5.7 million point electronic viewfinder with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, full coverage of the DCI-P3 spectrum and a maximum brightness of 4000 cd/m² . The case also has a touch screen on a ball joint, ports for UHS-II and Cfexpress type B SD cards. It also has the same battery as the Nikon Z6 II, Zf and Z8.
Nikon Z6 III price and availability
The Nikon Z6 III will be commercially available starting June 25. It will be offered in France at the bare price of 2999 euros, which positions it against the Sony A7 IV – launched at 2799 euros – the Canon EOS R6 Mark II – launched at 2899 euros – or the Lumix S5 II X – launched at 2499 euros .
The body will also be offered as a kit with 24-70 (f/4) and 24-120 (f/4) lenses, at prices which have not yet been communicated by the manufacturer.
