Announced a little over two years ago, it is one of the titles whose return is most awaited by players of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 generation. It was one of the craziest games of its time!

A remaster that divides

Announced almost 2 years ago then finally quite discreet, Lollipop Chainsaw: RePop unveiled a new trailer this Thursday, June 13, and the least we can say is that opinions are divided. Indeed, the title originally presented as a remake was finally revealed as a remaster in 2023 to which the developers have added more content. If early fans of the title seem enthusiastic in the trailer’s comments, praising its return like the messiah, others welcome the news a little more bitterly.

Fact, the title presents animations, textures and graphics similar to those of two generations of consoles ago, barely smoothed out. Despite everything, this re-release comes with its share of new features. Fact, this is expected on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 with 4K and 60 FPS support, in addition to Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions, limited to 1080p 30fps. In-game, the Chainsaw Blaster now has “auto rock on” – an automatic firing mode and an increased maximum ammunition count – while combos can now be used from the start of the game. Menu navigation is simplified and a new auto-QTE feature is now enabled by default. Various additions will also be there, but no information has yet revealed their nature.

Conflict and zombies

Another rather strange change is also to be noted in this remaster. Indeed, the title will benefit from an entirely new soundtrack, the fault of the developers of the title having never managed to find a financial agreement with the rights holders of the original OSTs. Information revealed by Yoshimi Yasuda – CEO of Dragami Games – during a interview for Gematsuin which he also talks about changes to the gameplay, and more particularly to the movements of the heroine, Juliette. These will therefore be much faster, as will his attacks, thanks in particular to “a new attack system called Chain Hit Hunting, in which chaining consecutive hits increases the chainsaw’s attack speed, in order to alleviate the monotony and slowness that might be found in older fights”.

The title tells the story of Juliette, a young student and cheerleader, on her way to find her boyfriend, Nick. On my way, a zombie epidemic breaks out, and as she makes her way to the park where her lover was waiting for her, he is bitten to protect her. But when he opens his eyes, he sees that only his head is still there, hanging on his girlfriend’s belt! The latter then reveals to him that she is part of an ancestral family of zombie hunters and that she decapitated and bewitched him to keep him alive and human. The duo then has the difficult task of closing the portal between the Rotten World, land of the undead, and Earth in order to save the world. Lollipop Chainsaw: RePop is expected on September 25 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S; Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
