A rigid, but comfortable and durable helmet
The JBL Live 660NC is a circum-aural headset with cushions that surround the ear. In terms of design, it plays the originality card by opting for a fabric covering on its headband. An elegant choice which also ensures good comfort on the top of the head. And that’s not bad, since it is quite rigid and tends to press quite strongly on each side of the head. Fortunately, the headset is light (265 g) and folds easily to be carried anywhere with you.
To listen to your favorite playlist for long hours, it has a 750 mAh battery capable of operating for 50 consecutive hours without noise reduction, and up to 40 hours in Bluetooth with noise reduction activated. For our part, the Live 660NC turned off after 39 hours (with ANC mode activated), so we are very close to the brand’s claims. A very durable headset, capable of recovering 60% battery life in around twenty minutes.
A pleasant sound
The Live 660NC has an adaptive noise reduction system. It automatically applies depending on the noise around you, and it is not possible to adjust the intensity. In fact, we are far from the quality offered by the market leaders. Voices are barely attenuated and, in an open-plan office, you will be just as disturbed by your colleagues’ discussions with or without noise reduction. The mode, however, proves a little more effective in managing traffic noise. Of course, we are entitled to an “ambient aware” mode, to hear external noises.
On the audio side, the American firm’s headset is based on two 40 mm diameter transducers. The sound reproduction is strongly based on the bass which is very present and above all, very well reproduced. The low mids, like the vocals, benefit from good reproduction. It is rather at the treble level where the audio device will fail. It also offers excellent spatialization with good stereo reproduction, and a wide and convincing soundstage. Finally, note that it will not be compatible with aptX and LDAC, but compatibility with AAC and SBC codecs as well as multipoint Bluetooth are included.
