With a successful career in cinema, Gareth Evans once tried to venture into the television serial format. An incursion which once again proved the qualities of the Welsh director.

From Indonesian cinema to English television

It was certainly in 2011 that Gareth Evans revealed himself as a director to follow. With his film The Raida small Indonesian production, Evans surprises the whole world with a visceral, solid action film with particularly well-staged action sequences. 3 years later, Evans will reaffirm his qualities as a director with The Raid 2a film which will not only succeed in equaling or even surpassing the first film but also in offering ever more inventive and successful scenes. And despite fans waiting for a third film in the series, Gareth Evans has since only returned to action cinema through an English series: Gangs of London.

Broadcast in our regions via Canal+, the series follows the story of Finn Wallace, who finds himself at the head of his father's mafia empire following the latter's death. In a London capital plagued by tensions between different criminal factions, young Finn will try to shed light on the death of his father. Upon its release in 2020, the English series was widely praised by critics for its staging and the performances of its actorsgoing until reaching 91% positive reviews for its first season on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, if Gareth Evans was able to serve as showrunner on the first season of the series, the role failed to Corin Hardy for the second season. and will fail Korean director Kim Hong Sun for season 3, the release of which is still expected for an unknown date. Note that the series adapts the video game series The Getaway including the latest opus, Gangs of Londonwas released in 2006 on PSP and was able to count, at least during its first season, on the talents of Xavier Gens (French director notably known for his films Hitman et Under the Seine) to produce a handful of episodes.

For his part, Gareth Evans should return to cinema with his feature film Havocwhose story of a detective finding himself in the middle of a plot involving the kidnapping of a politician's son, will draw on the talents of Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max Fury Road), Timothy Oliphant (Hitman, The Mandalorian) et Forest Whitaker (Ghost Dog, Black Panther). Few images from the film have been made public, however, and we shouldn't expect a trailer until sometime next year, with the project having just concluded its final reshoot session last July.
