Sega reveals its results and declares that it has completed its restructuring – News

After eight years as a member of the Sega family, the French studio known for the Endless franchise and more recently Humankind is once again standing on its own two feet as an independent studio bought by its executives. A desire from Sega which, as a reminder, had already offloaded Relic Entertainment (Company of Heroes 3) and carried out layoffs in the European premises as well as at Creative Assembly, in the wake of the spectacular cancellation of Hyenas and a few poor performance on the part of the Total War franchise.

Sega indicates that the departure of Amplitude, which resulted in an exceptional loss of 36 million euros, marks the end of these structural reforms begun in September 2023, which means in particular that Two Point Studios should not follow the same path as the French studio. This targeted restructuring against Western studios will have above all reminded how the current Sega feels more than ever strong and proud of its Japanese creations, its strong franchises named Sonic, Persona and Like a Dragon, even if Total War and Manager also remain pillars of the activity.

Sega also distributed 12.39 million games between April and September 2024 (compared to 10.52 million a year earlier). The lot includes 1.81 million Persona games, 1.53 million Sonic games, 1.41 million Like a Dragon games and 1.24 million Total War games. During the half-year, Sega's video game activity generated a turnover of 581.6 million euros and an operating profit of 75.4 million euros, a sharp increase compared to last year. The table below shows the results for the entire Sega Sammy group.

More austere than Persona, the latest Shin Megami Tensei still exceeded 1.6 million sales in all editions combined.

However, the releases of the last quarter were limited to Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance et Super Monkey Ball : Banana Rumblebut Sega does not forget to note the great trajectory of Unicorn Overlord, which reached a million copies at the end of September. Overall, although it sold fewer games than expected, Sega said it exceeded its targets thanks to strong sales of Total War DLC and the positive impact of exchange rates. The sales record of Rovio, which has officially been part of the group since August 2023, has also had a notable impact on the increase in sales, obviously.

For the rest, Metaphor: ReFantazio and Sonic Point Museum (March 5) and Football Manager 25 (March). Furthermore, after the success of the first two feature films, the results of the film Sonic 3 will be awaited around the corner, especially since its release timed for Christmas will take place in the middle of Sonic X Shadow Generations and Sonic Rumble, the first collaborative title entirely developed with Rovio.
