Samsung has pioneered the foldable smartphone market since its inception about half a decade ago. However, companies like Honor and Oppo have arguably brought more innovation in recent years with the Magic V3 and OnePlus Open (currently $1,299 at Amazon).

Additionally, Huawei remains the only company to have released a so-called trifold phone that expands from a 10.2-inch tablet to a 6.4-inch smartphone. As a reminder, the Mate XT is currently exclusive to China, Huawei should offer the device internationally during the first quarter of 2025.

According to ETNewssamsung continues to develop an alternative, although it is not yet available. Reportedly, the company took a different approach for the Galaxy Fold, which arrived in early 2019. While that device launched with many shortcomings, such as a tiny cover screen and a screen strange foldable, Samsung managed to overcome most of these problems with the release of the Galaxy Z Fold2 eighteen months later.

It looks like Samsung is focusing on what it thinks will be the “best” tri-feature phone, which ETNews describes as a “foldable phone that folds twice.” At present, it is not yet clear when Samsung will present a prototype, much less a finished product for retail sale. Meanwhile, the company recently launched the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which can still be ordered worldwide despite its South Korean exclusivity.
