Mutual societies should further increase their contributions in 2025.

According to the broker Reinsure Me, the increase will be on average 10.35% next year.

Your health insurance should soon cost you more. And the difference may well be significant. According to the Mutuelle santé 2025 barometer from the broker Réassurement-moi, contributions will increase next year “10.35% on average”. A significant increase, well above inflation, assessed by INSEE (new window) at 1.2% over the last 12 months.

200 euros more per year

The difference is bound to be felt in household wallets. “Families will see their mutual health expenses increase from 1,400 euros in 2024 to 1,508 euros in 2025”continues the broker in his barometer (new window). For retirees, the increase is even greater, going from 3151 euros to 3393 euros. “On average, the French will therefore spend 2,177 euros on their mutual health insurance in 2025, or 200 euros more than in 2024.”

Several reasons can explain this sudden increase. First, the aging of the population. “A growing proportion of older people leads to increased medical care, hospitalizations and costly treatments”explains Reassure me. “The number of patients with chronic illnesses requiring regular treatment is also growing strongly”while the increase in certain medical prices (new window) will also weigh a little more on mutual insurance companies.

Therefore, the sector is revising its price scale upwards. Some mutuals will even increase their prices by 20% next year, continues the broker, while, for others, it will be limited to 6%. Mutuals have already increased their prices in 2024, with an average increase of 8.1% in contributions this year, after a previous increase of 4.7% in 2023.
