This is the big surprise of the day for Xbox players since Kojima Productions has just announced that Death Stranding is no longer a PlayStation exclusive on consoles. Indeed, the game has just been released on Xbox Series X|S, and with a great promotion to boot.
The best version of Death Stranding is now on Xbox
It's quite a surprise for Xbox players, which has just arrived on the Store. While Death Stranding was released on PC Game Pass, it is now the ultimate DIRECTOR'S CUT edition of the game which has just landed on both the new latest Xbox and Windows PC.
To mark the occasion, this edition is launched on promotion at €19.99 while it is sold on PS5 on the PlayStation website at the price of €59.99. Bonus, the game is “Play Anywhere”, which means you can buy and play it on both Xbox console and Windows PC.
Death Stranding takes place in the near future where supernatural events have thrown the world into chaos. Mysterious phenomena have caused the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead to disappear, causing the appearance of supernatural creatures called “BTs” and devastating climatic anomalies. The protagonist, Sam Porter Bridges, a lonely delivery boy, is tasked with rebuilding bridges between the remnants of civilization by reconnecting the various isolated communities across a devastated United States. His goal is to restore some semblance of unity to a broken world, while confronting the dangers posed by BTs and a mysterious group led by a man named Clifford Unger.
During his journey, Sam uncovers secrets related to the cause of Death Stranding and the role he plays in this crisis. He meets key characters like Amelie, a mysterious central figure, and Cliff, a former soldier linked to the origin of the phenomenon. At the same time, Sam fights against the threat of a terrorist group led by Higgs, who seeks to manipulate supernatural powers for destructive purposes. The game addresses themes of loneliness, human connection and resilience, while asking philosophical questions about life, death and the afterlife.
Kojima and Xbox, the rapprochement?
The collaboration between Hideo Kojima and Xbox has been a landmark event in recent years in the video game industry. During E3 2022, Kojima announced a partnership with Microsoft for the development of a new game. This project is based on Xbox cloud technology, and Kojima clarified that this game will offer a unique experience, fully exploiting the capabilities of the cloud to offer innovative gameplay and never-before-seen storytelling. The project has generated a lot of curiosity, as it marks a significant technological shift for Kojima, traditionally associated with single-player games and more linear narratives.
The collaboration was particularly notable because it marks a turning point in Kojima's relationship with consoles. After leaving Konami and founding his own studio, Kojima Productions, in 2015, Kojima worked with Sony on the PlayStation-exclusive Death Stranding (2019) before turning to Xbox for his new project. The collaboration between Xbox and Kojima Productions was then revealed with a horror game known for the moment as Overdose. Remember that the studio is also very busy with the development of Death Stranding 2.
