Hebrew, Turkish, Russian… On Waze, a mysterious bug switches the application to a foreign language

The Waze navigation application, owned by Google, is the victim of a bug that changes the default language. The French do not seem to be the only ones concerned.

This November 6, some users of the Waze application seem disoriented. According to multiple testimonies on social networks, the navigation application belonging to Google has modified the language displayed, often replacing texts displayed in French with indications in Hebrew. Other languages, such as Turkish or Russian, also seem to be displayed by mistake.

On the Downdetector site, which lists breakdowns on different applications, the language bug affecting Waze is also widely mentioned. Here again, a sudden change in the display of the indications is mentioned. The bug concerns French users, but also other Internet users, for example in the United Kingdom.

According to other accounts on social networks, the bug also affects units of measurement. For some users who are used to evaluating distances in miles, they are then displayed in kilometers, and vice versa.

With Tech&Co, Google mentions a bug, which its teams are currently working on. “We are aware of an issue regarding Waze users' language selection and are working to resolve it,” said a company spokesperson.
