If you’re an iPhone user, you’ve probably already noticed that you spend a lot of time navigating between your apps. But that could soon change. WWDC 2024 will undoubtedly be memorable in more than one way this year.
As you probably know, WWDC takes place tonight. You can follow it from Frandroid, obviously, and even from our live Twitch. We expect a historic edition this year, and Mark Gurman, Apple specialist at Bloomberg, evokes what will undoubtedly be announced. And even beyond the WWDC conference. Unsurprisingly, we are talking about artificial intelligence.
Even if this term is used all over the place, artificial intelligence is changing the world of tech, and Apple does not intend to be left behind. The Apple brand is preparing for a major transformation, by integrating AI into the heart of its products and services. This development would be driven by the need to make devices more autonomous and intuitive, and reduce users’ dependence on applications. But, we suspect, that it was also to avoid being overtaken by competitors.
In the future, Apple products will better utilize voice control and provide relevant information at the right time, eliminating the need to constantly check a screen full of apps. Mark Gurman already imagines a future where Apple would no longer be dependent on applications. To do this, Apple will need to become a hardware-AI cloud company, moving beyond the traditional hardware-software-services approach.
Domestic robots, augmented reality glasses and next-generation AirPods
The upcoming iPhone 16 lineup would represent a first step in this direction. But this is only the beginning. Mark Gurman predicts the arrival of domestic robots, augmented reality glasses, and new generation AirPods. These devices will be equipped with advanced sensors to monitor body temperature and glucose, and will benefit from new services, such as an AI-powered health coach.
Apple is also reportedly considering a redesign of Siri, the voice assistant, to make it the heart of future devices like a robot. The latter, essentially a large iPad screen, could move to imitate the movements of the human head, and thus make interactions more natural and intuitive. Controlled primarily by voice, this device would benefit from a more precise and faster version of Siri.
The Vision Pro, already equipped with AI capabilities to understand its external environment, could pave the way for Apple’s future innovations. AirPods equipped with a camera could also see the light of day, the idea is to offer relevant information directly to users, whether to their eyes or ears. This will probably remind you of the Humane AI Pin or the Rabbit r1. New health features, such as the virtual coach and non-invasive blood sugar detection, would also depend on artificial intelligence.
In short, Apple is preparing for a radical transformation driven by artificial intelligence. But Apple will face enormous competition in the AI market, with players who already have a bit of a head start, such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft or OpenAI obviously.
