After nine years of waiting, Raspberry Pi launches an improved version of its Touch Display. From now on, it is possible to equip your mini-computer with a screen for less than a hundred euros.
The Raspberry Pi Touch Display is a 7-inch LCD screen offering 720 x 1,280 pixels and True multi-touch support, which means that it is possible to use five fingers simultaneously. The recommended retail price is sixty dollars. At Belgian resellers, the screen will be offered at a price of around seventy euros.
This new display supports all Raspberry Pis from Raspberry Pi 1B+ and later, with the exception of the Pi Zero series as there is no DSI connection. Since the display driver PCB is now integrated into the display, it is also thinner than its predecessor.
No tablet
The Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 is a display, not a tablet, that can easily connect to an existing Pi for all sorts of applications, such as displaying a Home Assistant. The Pi can be attached to the display and connected via existing connections.
The launch of Display 2 does not mean (yet) that the sale of the first Display has stopped, but the company nevertheless advises purchasing the new version for those starting new projects. Note that the Touch Display 2 will continue to be produced until at least 2030.
