It dethroned ChatGPT, Threads and Telegram. The Univer Note application has topped the rankings of free applications downloaded from the App Store in France in recent days.
But how did it manage to get ahead of these digital giants? Officially, the application presents itself as a tool used to “record the events of the day and plan your time”. Comments even support its functional nature. “It’s very practical for making a to-do list (to-do list) “, we read for example. “I write down everything I need: shopping list, text… Honestly, perfect,” writes another user.
In fact, Univer Note is not a note-taking application. Launched at the beginning of September, the platform actually provides access to a large catalog of films and series available for free (and illegally) in streaming. The productions offered come from legal video-on-demand platforms such as Disney+, Amazon Prime, Netflix or even Apple TV.
Apple has already faced this type of illegal streaming application in the past. The company notably closed the Micro Habits application and Flower Butler, which also specialize in illegal streaming. According to Numerama, which has already looked into the subject, it is likely that Apple validated a first version of the completely legal application before it was updated to achieve this result. The application was still available this Monday, late afternoon.
