Netflix will remove no less than 20 interactive films from its platform on December 1st. Only four films will remain accessible. According to a Netflix spokeswoman, the goal is to focus technological efforts in other areas.
As reported The VergeNetflix will remove almost all interactive films from the platform on December 1st. Among the 24 interactive films available, only 4 will remain, namely: “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch”, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend”, “Ranveer vs. Wild with Bear Grylls” and “You vs. Wild”.
No less than 20 interactive films will definitely leave Netflix on December 1st. We find among these: “Headspace: Free your mind”, “Jurassic World: La Colo du Cretaceous – A secret adventure”, or even “Escape the Undertaker”.
Chrissy Kelleher, spokesperson for Netflix, justified this decision to The Verge by explaining: “ Technology has served its purpose, but it is now becoming limiting as we focus our technology efforts in other areas ».
It must be said that interactive films constitute a real challenge for directors. They have to somehow make several films in one, which implies a larger budget. In addition, the promise made to spectators to live their own adventure is often very limited. Even if they have the possibility of making a few choices during a story, the bifurcations still remain quite limited.
Netflix therefore now intends to definitively turn the page on interactive films and the interactive episode of the Black Mirror series, entitled Bandersnatchwill undoubtedly remain the streaming platform’s most successful attempt.
Regardless, Netflix is now taking radical decisions to refocus its activities, even if it means making certain works inaccessible. Recently, we also learned that the streaming platform has decided to close its largest video game development studio.
