Another day of ordinary violence in Mexico: five people from the same family were killed Monday in Acapulco (south) and a patient was killed in hospital in the center of the country where two police officers called for reinforcements were shot dead.

The five members of the same family were killed by an armed commando who also injured two other people when they burst into a home in the suburbs of Acapulco on Monday morning, according to local authorities.

The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Guerrero announced the opening of an investigation. Most homicides go unpunished in Mexico. In the state of Guerrero, criminal gangs are competing for control of drug trafficking and routes.

On Friday, local authorities published search notices for 14 missing people. And on October 6, the mayor of Chilpancingo, the capital of Guerrero, Alejandro Arcos, 43, was beheaded days after taking office.

In the province of Puebla (center), armed men killed a patient at Atlixco hospital on Monday, also killing two police officers, according to authorities.

The attackers shot ten times at the victim “who arrived at the hospital on Sunday morning by his own means, injured by a firearm,” explained the Secretary of Security of the State of Puebla, Daniel Ivan Cruz, during a press conference. “After responding to the emergency call,” the police officers who went to the scene were fired upon and two of them “died at the scene.”

Investigators are seeking to determine whether the patient, aged around 30, was involved in illegal activities, the Security Secretary added. Atlixco welcomed thousands of visitors this weekend for the Day of the Dead.

In March 2022, ten members of the same family were executed in the town of 90,000 inhabitants. Local authorities then spoke of a settling of scores between drug-trafficking criminal groups.
