The Federal Office for Cybersecurity (OFCS) is warning this Monday of a new online scam. The Confederation’s services are currently receiving several reports of emails supposedly sent by the AVS compensation fund promising reimbursement.
The old age insurance logo is imitated. “Cybercriminals try to extract credit card information from victims. With this information, fraudsters can make abusive purchases in the victim’s name or resell the data to third parties,” writes the OFCS.
The link in the email leads to a phishing page in the colors and logo of the AVS compensation fund, and therefore seems trustworthy. The scammers thus attempt to encourage victims to provide their personal data and credit card information, including their CVV number, on the site.
The Confederation calls on those affected to delete these emails. “To receive money, it is never necessary to indicate a credit card,” remind the authorities.
