The 15-inch MacBook Air powered by the M3 chip is entitled to a nice reduction before Black Friday

It was last spring that Apple updated one of its best-sellers, the MacBook Air. This ultraportable is now boosted by the recent M3 chip, which promises solid performance. If this model catches your eye, but its price is holding you back, know that the 15-inch version (16 + 256 GB) is, for Black Friday, on sale at 1,629 euros instead of 1 829 euros at Fnac and Darty.

Last March, Apple unveiled its new range of MacBook Airs, now equipped with the M3 chip. These recent ultraportables, whose arrival also marked the disappearance of MacBook Airs equipped with the M1 chip, obviously offer ultra-solid performance. A model which naturally obtained an excellent rating at the end of our test. In this Black November, the version that particularly interests us is the MacBook Air 15 M3, which currently benefits from a 200 euro reduction.

The strong points of the MacBook Air 15 M3

  • A design as refined as ever
  • A bright and contrasting 15.3-inch panel
  • The performance of the M3 chip, obviously

Initially priced at 1,829 euros, the MacBook Air 15 M3 (16 + 256 GB) is now available on sale at 1,629 euros at Fnac and Darty.

The 16 + 512 GB model is also on sale at 1,859 euros instead of 2,059 euros, still at Fnac and at Darty.

A sublime design, a well-calibrated screen

The MacBook Air 15 M3 has almost the same design as the M2 which preceded it: same weight of 1.51 kg, same chassis and same slightly unsightly notch. Overall, this ultraportable which is certainly not the lightest, but which remains compact enough to be transported without difficulty benefits from exemplary finishes, as Apple knows how to do. Special mention also for the “Midnight” finish, a pretty deep blue, which is also less sensitive to fingerprints.

On the screen side, the MacBook Air 15 M3 integrates a 15.3-inch LCD panel, a very comfortable diagonal for working, since you can, for example, place two windows side by side without feeling cramped. A more spacious screen which allows you to increase your productivity, therefore. The panel itself is also very bright and contrasty, while offering realistic colors. It’s a shame all the same that the Cupertino company still hasn’t taken the step of OLED on the MacBook Air, a technology that it prefers to reserve for future MacBook Pros.

Top performance, no surprises

The first MacBook Air 15 M3 advantage is obviously this M3 chip that it contains. During our test, we noticed good progress compared to the M2, particularly on the graphics side which shows an evolution of almost 75% between the MacBook Air M2 and M3; the GPU benefits here from two flagship features, namely hardware acceleration of the ray tracing as well as the dynamic cachingwhich allows it to use only the memory (VRAM) that it needs according to the video games. When it comes to creative applications, like Photoshop, the MacBook Air M3 is much more robust than the M2. Remember, however, that the MacBook Air, even with its M3 chip, is less powerful than the MacBook Pro (but also less expensive…).

Let’s also add the fact that Apple has revised its copy on its SSD (here 256 GB or 512 GB), by adding a second NAND memory chip; enough to benefit from slightly higher speeds, and thus unlock certain uses, particularly in terms of video editing. Finally, in terms of autonomy, the machine survived a day and a half before dropping below 10% for standard work use. In terms of charging, two hours will be necessary to fill the battery to 100% with the compact 30 W charger.
