Apple is already planning the next step in the Apple Intelligence deployment schedule. With iOS 18.2, Apple will introduce new tools powered by artificial intelligence, such as Genmoji, an equivalent of Google and, above all, the integration of ChatGPT. The update would arrive sooner than expected…

A few days ago, Apple rolled out the iOS 18.1 update to all compatible iPhones. This new version of iOS 18 introduces many new features powered by Apple Intelligence, at least in the United States. In Europe, you will have to wait until 2025 to be able to take advantage of Apple’s AI on an iPhone 15 Pro or an iPhone 16.

With iOS 18.1, US users can access a host of new features, like writing tools and an AI-powered photo library. As expected, Apple does not intend to stop there. From December 2024, Apple will switch to the second phase of the deployment schedule of Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.2. Tim Cook’s group opted for a very gradual deployment Apple Intelligence tools so as not to suddenly overload its servers.

Apple moves up a gear

According to information obtained by Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloombergthe update should arrive a little early on forecasts. In his Sunday newsletter, the informant reveals that his sources indicate that the firmware “should arrive earlier in December”. Barring last minute delays, Apple should push iOS 18.2 to compatible devices “week of December 2”.

This is a hinge update as part of the deployment of Apple Intelligence. Indeed, iOS 18.2 will add Genmoji, emojis generated by AI, Playground, the image creation tool, Visual Intelligence, the equivalent of Google Lens, and above all, ChatGPT. To respond to the most complex queries, iOS will allow ChatGPT to be called on the iPhone. Some of these new features are already visible in the first beta version of the update.

The update will also include a handful of new features reserved for Europe. Starting with iOS 18.2, Apple will notably allow you to remove almost all system applications, such as the App Store, Safari, Messages, Camera and Photos.

A third phase in 2025

In April 2025, Apple will then begin the third phase of the deployment of Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.4. This update will mark the long-awaited arrival of a brand new Siri powered by generative AI. The voice assistant will be able to draw on user data to respond to their requests. This is when Apple Intelligence will make its debut on European iPhones.

Subsequently, Apple should open iOS to alternatives to ChatGPT, starting with Gemini, Google’s generative AI. According to Gurman, the group should nevertheless grant “a beautiful window of exclusivity” at OpenAI. So don’t expect to see other AIs arriving on iOS anytime soon.
