The rumor confirmed. OpenAI, an Artificial Intelligence development company, is launching a major improvement to its first search engine, called ChatGPT Search. Its objective will be to compete with Google. How does this new engine work?
This update to the SearchGPT program, unveiled in July 2024, marks the real launch into the search engine battle by OpenAI. This new program is integrated directly into the ChatGPT platform.
The innovation constitutes an improvement of the GPT-40 model, already specialized in information retrieval. ChatGPT Search not only offers to provide textual responses, but also responses to multimedia content, real-time data and maintains a contextualized dialogue to help refine searches.
Its interface now has an icon dedicated to web search to choose between automatic or manual search. A demonstration video has already been published by the development company on its X account.
Make shopping easier
OpenAI and its search engine are expected to address questions of reliability and transparency of sources. The company revealed that it had concluded various licensing agreements with different publishers and data sources, but without the nature of these agreements having been revealed. In France, only Le Monde has signed an agreement with OpenAI.
In the future, ChatGPT Search is expected to improve search in shopping, travel and enable deeper searches, OpenAI announced.
