Saturday June 8from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Castries Taurine Association (ATC les manades) organizes bullfighting festivities combining folklore and Camargue races.
At 11 a.m., Céline’s Carreto ramado begins, in homage to Henri Villedieu. The latter was a master in the art of harnessing decorated carriages to draft horses and the art of bullfighting.
The procession will leave the arena, accompanied by the Arlesians Pichoto camargo and peña. It will go up rue de Montpellier, to reach the Ehpad la Farigoule, rue de la Guesse. There, the harnessed procession will pause to let the residents enjoy this spectacle, knowing that they participated in the preparation of the decorations. Then, the return to the arenas will be via the streets of 11-Novembre, du Balcon rond and de la Promenade.
As for the bullfighting festivities, at 4:30 p.m. in the bullring, the capelado will be hosted by the folkloric group Pichoto Camargo and the peña La Malaïgue d’or. The Raynaud herd will celebrate its 120th anniversary, or six generations. Next will come the Marcel Raynaud trophy and the herd competition, at AS elite 1.
At 6 p.m., the on-track awards ceremony will reward the best bull of the afternoon as well as the most deserving bulls.
