Gemini AI arrives in Google Maps.

Google’s formidable navigation app is getting a makeover with a series of major improvements announced this week. With its 2 billion monthly users, Google Maps now integrates Gemini artificial intelligence to significantly enrich the user experience and the relevance of the information offered.

The application benefits in particular from enriched navigation allowing you to better anticipate lane changes and exits thanks to a more detailed display of road signs. Motorists will also be able to report weather disturbances such as flooded or snowy roads in real time, a feature that is particularly useful during the winter season.

AI for exploration

Gemini is entering Google Maps in the US, offering personalized recommendations based on analysis of reviews and local data. This integration makes it possible to ask specific questions about places of interest and obtain instant summary answers, such as the presence of seats on the terrace or the atmosphere of a restaurant.

Route planning becomes more intuitive with the ability to easily explore points of interest along the route. A simple tap on “add stops” now reveals attractions, restaurants and scenic spots near the route. We are delighted to see this happen in Switzerland!

An enriched experience all the way to your destination

The application significantly improves arrival guidance by highlighting available parking lots and allowing you to save your parking location. Navigation continues even after leaving your vehicle, with pedestrian guidance in augmented reality until the final destination.

The deployment of these new features is gradually taking place globally on Android and iOS. The improved navigation will first be available in around thirty metropolitan areas before a wider extension, confirming Google’s ambition to remain the leader in the field of digital mapping.

Immersive View is growing

Finally, the expansion of the Immersive View functionality to 150 additional cities, including places like Brussels, Kyoto and Frankfurt, illustrates Google’s ambition to create an ever more immersive and realistic navigation experience, specifies the 1is global search engine.

This functionality, which allows 3D visualization of places, will also extend to new categories of sites, such as university campuses, thus offering users an even richer perspective of their environment, according to the same text released this week.
